Anxiety: Controlling Your Mind

Your mind doesn’t have to control you.  You can learn to control it.

Whenever you notice that uncomfortable, uneasy, anxious feeling inside, find solitude and sit with that feeling.  That is if you’re not in a life-threatening situation.  Then you need to get out of it.  Most of the time you’re not.  Your anxiety is kicking in because  your mind perceives the situation you’re in as threatening.  It’s all triggered by your thoughts.

Sit down.  Focus on an object.  Focus on your breathing.  Let that anxious feeling flow through your body.  Don’t hold onto it.  Let it flow.  It is energy that needs to be released.  It may cause you to cry.  It may cause you to shake.  It may bring up many unwanted, negative thoughts.  Let it flow.  Once you sit with it and feel it, it lessens.
It takes time.  Be patient.  You’re going to have negative thoughts, but you don’t have to react to them.  Give yourself lots of love.

I suffered many years with anxiety and depression and I ran to people to avoid dealing with the chaos inside.  I learned how to not let it control me anymore.  I write about it on here and I offer mentoring via e-mail.  It is possible to heal.  You don’t have to suffer for the rest of your life.  I just want you to know that.  Keep the faith.
